Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (KS3)

We take best practice from the UK Statutory PSHE Framework using guidance and resources from the PSHE Association and adapt this for the students at our school as well as our geographical location and cultural context.

This curriculum is broken into three strands including:

Health & Wellbeing.
Living in the Wider World.
Relationships.

PSHE (Physical, Social, Health & Economic Education) is designed to:

Inspire our students to set ambitious goals for their future and understand and develop the skills needed for their success.
Shape them to beknow the importance of physical health and mental wellbeing, as well as open-mindedness and tolerance.
Building futures in a diverse and international setting.

In order to meet these aims we will…

Currently, at ISB we deliver a PSHE curriculum which includes one 60-minute lesson every other week for Years 7, 8 and 9. Years 10 and 11 cover a sequence of RSHE topics in line with the PSHE Association guidance during GLS lessons. In Years 1-6 PSHE lessons are taught once per week.
Our PSHE curriculum is delivered to each student in Years 1 to 9. We also deliver RSHE (Relationship, Sex, Health Education) which may contain some opt-out elements – parents will be sent communication in advance which allows them to decide for their children to not participate in these lessons. We do, however, encourage the expectation that all students participate in these lessons, as with any other curriculum subject.
Boys and girls must be separated for RSHE but should learn about what happens to the opposite gender.
