Head of Year 7
It has been wonderful to welcome our new cohort of Year 7 students into Secondary this week. On Monday, we began with a welcome breakfast hosted by Dr Jones, Head of Secondary, followed by an extended form of time. This gave students the opportunity to get to know their tutors, familiarise themselves with their new timetables, and prepare for the week ahead.
The students have now completed their first full week and should have met most, if not all, of their teachers. It has been great to see them beginning to settle into Secondary life, navigate their new routines, and grow in confidence throughout the week.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and to celebrating the many successes, achievements, and memorable moments that are sure to come for our Year 7s.
Head of Year 8&9
We have made it through our first week back at school, and I would like to congratulate all our Year 8 and 9 students on such a positive start to the new school year.
It has been great to see students settling back into school life, reconnecting with friends, and getting used to their new timetables, teachers, and routines. A special well done and warm welcome to all our new starters, who have had the added challenge of settling into a new school. We hope you are already beginning to feel at home and part of our school community.
The first week back can always feel a little tiring after the holidays, but our students have approached it well and it has been lovely to see them getting involved in lessons and school life again.
Thank you, as always, for your support at home in helping students make a smooth transition back to school.
I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved and restful weekend, ready for another positive week ahead.
Head of Year 10&11
A huge welcome to all our new students. It has been lovely to see all the students back and to have ISB buzzing again. Year 11s have returned with an air of determination about them as they embark on this crucial academic year. Year 10 are ready for their IGCSE courses and are settling into their Option subjects. A change of Option Subject in year 10 is possible (subject to spaces in other subjects), but only up to the end of week 3 of term. Any later than that and catch-up work on missed material becomes extremely challenging.
Keeping attendance above 95% is crucial over the IGCSE years, so your support in ensuring students attend school every day (subject to illness, of course) is invaluable. Often the hardest part of the day, for most students (and staff), is getting out of bed when the alarm goes off and getting to school – once they are here, they are often fine and able to fully engage with the day. They can of course visit our nurse if they continue to feel unwell when they are at school.
As always, if there is anything I can help with please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Head of Year 12&13
What an exciting start to the year it has been for our new Year 12 cohort! It has been wonderful to see so many smiling, refreshed faces returning after the long holiday, and our students already look ready for the exciting year ahead. A huge congratulations to our Year 12 students on their excellent results, which were released this week — we are incredibly proud of all that they have achieved. They began the week with a tailored two-day IB Induction Programme, giving them the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the IB and what lies ahead. Alongside this, they enjoyed team-building activities and some well-deserved, stress-relieving yoga! They have now settled into their lessons and are busy getting to know their new subjects, teachers, and classmates.
A very warm welcome back to our Year 13 students! It has been lovely to see them return refreshed and ready to embrace the important year ahead. They have already been busy in their lessons and are continuing to work on the next stages of their Extended Essays. As they enter their final year of school, it is more important than ever that students communicate with their teachers whenever they need academic support, and with their tutors if they need some additional pastoral or emotional support. Our teachers, tutors, Heads of Year and counselling team are all here to support our students throughout what will undoubtedly be a busy and exciting year. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you feel that your child will benefit from any additional support.
