Enrichment at ISB

Enriching our students curriculum and learning is an essential part of our vision and ethos. There are a variety of co-curricular activities that support students in developing skills linked to creativity, community and sports and adventure.  Clubs include a range of sports such as football, basketball, tennis, swimming, arts such as the school play, drama club, rock bands, jazz bands, individual music lessons, ensembles to school debating club, MUN and the International Award.

We also have a clear progressive outdoor education programme from Year 7 to Year 9.  Then in Year 10, all students complete the Duke of Edinburgh International Bronze Award.  Students may then opt for the silver and gold awards.  This award supports students with life long learning skills and is highly valued by employers and universities.  More information on the DoE International Award can be found at:

In Year 12 and 13 students take part in a range of CAS activities.  This is a core element of the IB programme and supports students in a range of skills and values.

The school also takes part in a range of conferences and competitions at global to local level.  They include anything from debates to STEM competitions to sporting events.

House system

We have four Houses.  Students belong to one of these Houses throughout their school life.  Houses compete against each other in terms of achievement points and many sporting and non-sporting competitions.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is widely recognised as the world’s leading youth achievement award. Participation in the Award has grown every year since inception in 1956. By 2017, over six million people had taken part in DofE programmes in the UK, with over eight million worldwide. The Award recognises young adults for completing a series of self-improvement challenges which include physical expeditions, volunteering and learning new skills.

ISB is proud to have delivered the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award since 2016. ISB students in the DofE Award schemes have improved their confidence, resilience and team working skills while completing all the expected challenges well within a set time frame. The knowledge and experience gained will strengthen applications for university and for future employment.
