Updated: Oct 13, 2022

ISB student achieves perfect IBDP score of 45.

A student at the International School of Brunei has achieved the highed possible perfect score of 45 in her International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), which is equivalent to 5 A*s at 'A' Level. The highest scoring student, Nur Natalia Affiqah Binti Zainal Abidin, will be studying Physiotherapy next year at the University of Queensland, one of the largest schools for health and rehabilitation sciences in Australia.

L to R – Claire McGhee (ISB Head of Year 12 & 13), Dr Stephen Kendall-Jones (ISB Executive Principal & CEO), Nur Natalia Affiqah Binti Zainal Abidin, Dato Seri Paduka Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa (Chairman of ISB Board of Directors), Roy David Kurian (ISB Board Director), Julia Hillier (ISB IBDP Coordinator)

Natalia, who was a recipient of an ISB Scholarship to study the IBDP at ISB, awarded by the ISB Board of Directors, expressed her gratitude to the ISB Board of Directors for granting her the scholarship and giving her the opportunity to study IB at ISB.

Incredibly proud of her achievement, she said, "I owe this achievement to my family, teachers and friends who always supported me and stood by my side every step of the way."

The Board of Directors were full of praise for Natalia and congratulated her on this amazing feat which evidently demonstrates the high-quality education ISB provides to suit each student's strengths, goals and aspirations.

The ISB community also congratulated Natalia on her perfect score, with the Executive Principal, Dr Stephen Kendall-Jones, noting that “globally fewer than 1% of the more than 150 000 students who took the IB Diploma Programme examinations in May 2022 achieved the perfect score of 45. We are incredibly proud of Natalia’s results and look forward to hearing stories of her continued success at university and beyond”

The IBDP is a rigorous, two-year qualification globally recognised as an alternative to ‘A’ Levels which, research shows, helps students to thrive at university and allows students to continue studying six subjects in their final years. This year, the 2022 May cohort at ISB achieved a 92% pass rate and will now be heading off to continue their studies at top universities in the UK and around the world, confident that the two-year IB programme has provided them with all the necessary tools to be successful at university and their future careers.

At the International School of Brunei, the IB Programme prepares students for further education and life beyond, shaping and nurturing individual students for well-rounded personal growth. The IB is recognised globally as the gold standard for international Pre-University education.

As we are receiving our student's results this week, we would also like to extend a hearty congratulations to the Year 11 cohort in 2021-22.

These results are particularly impressive, given the uncertainties throughout 2021-2022. We are proud of all of our Year 11 students who demonstrated great resilience and determination as they navigated their way through a year that included a long period of virtual school and the need to move mock exams to later in the year. We’d like to thank all ISB teachers and tutors for the guidance and support provided to our students, and we congratulate all parents and families for the role they played in our ongoing success at ISB.

As an inclusive school, we are very proud of all of our successes, which is highlighted in our value-added score of +1.03. This shows that, on average, ISB students perform an IGCSE grade better than their “most likely” prediction from their CAT4 tests. At ISB Everyone Excels!

We wish our Year 11 students all the very best as they embark on their Pre-University studies.
